OCC are pleased to let you know of significant improvements to service X40 (Oxford – Wallingford – Reading) from 3rd August, including:
- brand new buses
- increase in daytime, evening and Sunday frequencies
- reversion to Abingdon Road in Oxford on a limited-stop basis
- improved late-night buses on Fridays and Saturdays from Oxford
- new late-night buses on Fridays and Saturdays from Reading

These improvements have been made possible by partnership working between Oxfordshire County Council, Reading Borough Council and Thames Travel, utilising developer contributions and Bus Service Improvement Plan (BSIP) funding.
We are currently working on developing an improvement programme for bus stops between Wallingford and Reading as part of our BSIP capital programme for 2025/26, as well as a new right turn for buses off the A4074 at Benson Lane, Crowmarsh.
